Join The Human Justice Movement

Every year in January, we observe National Human Trafficking Awareness Day. (Thanks President Obama!)

All people deserve the most basic rights of freedom, dignity, and justice. It may be hard to see from your own backyard, but human trafficking still thrives in our world today. In the capital city of Addis Ababa alone, it’s estimated that there are over 150,000 women involved in the commercial sex industry.

Thanks to some really awesome brands working with those who have escaped human trafficking or are finding a way out, victims rights are being restored! Women are provided with job opportunities and are educated in life skills so they can provide for their families. With a positive income comes a renewed sense of hope and confidence allowing them to take back their lives.

It’s easy to feel like we can’t possibly make a difference. But, when the proceeds from your purchases go directly to help these initiatives, you are a part of the movement! Check out these brands on LatchCo that give YOU the power to make an impact.

5 Gifts That Give Back For Father's Day

Father's Day is almost here!

It's time to scrape up whatever last minute manly trinket you can find and wrap it up in the name of Father’s Day.

I’m sure Dad loves all the ‘World’s Best Dad’ coffee mugs and polo shirts, but let’s try something a bit different this year. Let’s give a gift with real meaning, one that tells a story and has real human impact.

There are plenty to choose from, no matter what dad style  you're working with. I've listed a few of my favorites when it comes to great products with even greater initiatives.. Father's Day style!

Corporate Dad Socks For a Cause

This gift set of dress socks comes with 4 pairs. Proceeds from each pair support different causes (clean water efforts, education, aids prevention, world hunger).

Sporty Dad Sports Bag

Each bag is handcrafted in India, giving local artisans a means to support their family. Each purchase comes with the name, picture, and information of the actual person that made the bag.

Cool Dad Not Your Average Necktie

With each purchase of these handmade, authentic neckties, proceeds are donated to feed and house the homeless.

Busy Dad Fair Trade Organic Peruvian Coffee

This isn’t your normal coffee. In addition to being made from fair trade, organic and shade-grown coffee beans, proceeds from this coffee support adopting families and clean water efforts.

Trendy Dad Leather Messenger Bag

Hand crafted in India with buffalo leather, each bag includes a tag with the name and picture of the crafter. 90% of the proceeds support the crafters in impoverished communities.

5 Ways Weddings Can Give Back

Weddings are special. There's no doubt about it.

In the past, they were more structured, manicured in such a way that each wedding resembled past weddings and there wasn't much room for deviating from the social norm.

These days, they are becoming less about the idealistic expectation and more about a true reflection of the couple themselves. You're free to have a traditional wedding, a funky wedding, a casual wedding, or simply a massive party.

No judgements.

The way in which the big day is celebrated is a representation of the values, beliefs, and desires that are important to the bride and groom, right?

With that in mind, couples are getting creative with the ways they reveal that and often times, incorporate socially responsible products and themes in the wedding. Sometimes they opt out of giving their guests a favor, and instead, put the money towards a charitable cause, or ask guests to donate to a charity in lieu of giving a gift. One of the easiest ways to stand apart and show support is by wearing or gifting products that are ethically made.

Here are 5 gifts that give back ... wedding style.

The Bridesmaid Gift: Brave Collection (multiple colors)

Something simple with meaning that they'll remember for years. This delicate, handcrafted cotton and brass bracelet  says “Brave” (Klaa-han) in Khmer and was handmade in Cambodia by a local artisan to empower women across the globe. 10% of their profits are donated to fight human trafficking in Cambodia.

The Groomsman Gift: Socks to Give Clean Water

A snazzy way the guys can stand out. The purchase of these unique and ethically made socks provides 18 months of clean water to someone in need through water.org.

For The Bride: Ali Necklace

There's nothing better than a bride making a statement. This elegant, white beaded drop necklace is made by women in Uganda. Giving them employment enables them to provide food and education for their children.

For The Groom: La Flor Necktie

This tie turn heads just enough to look cool, but not detract from the bride. Proceeds from the purchase of this handmade, cotton linen necktie go towards building water wells in Nicaragua.

For The Bridal Party: Huaracha Sandals

Something for all the gals to sport. Proceeds from these handmade leather sandals support clean water efforts in Guatemala.
Bonus - they come in just about any color you want.
